Mothers and Lovers
"Mothers and Lovers" is a narrative short film that explores the intricate dynamics of love, desire, and truth within the context of a new mother’s life. June, a queer pansexual woman in a straight marriage, finds herself torn between the commitments she made to her husband, Avi, and her longing for sexual intimacy with others. Set against the backdrop of a lakeside cabin in upstate New York, the story unfolds over a weekend spent with her husband and daughter, while June is haunted by flashbacks of a passionate encounter with her non-binary lover at the same cabin just a week earlier. As June navigates this emotional landscape, "Mothers and Lovers" delves into the ongoing process of truth-telling and compromise essential for maintaining sexual compatibility between partners who strive to stay true to themselves and to each other. The film offers a candid portrayal of the joys and challenges of accepting diverse expressions of love and intimacy.
